Yamudu Movie Review

Behind the Movie Yamudu: Combo of hero Suriya and director Hari is considered as a safe bet at Tamil BO. Proving their expectations right, ‘Singam’ has shaken the Tamil records and is now dubbed into Telugu as ‘Yamudu.’ With Anushka in a glamorous role and Devisri Prasad’s energetic music, let us see how this tough cop fared and roared? In the Movie Yamudu: Narasimham (Suriya) is Sub Inspector of Police in Rajolu, his native village. Though he wants to run his family business of a provisional store, he becomes SI to fulfill his father’s (Radha Ravi) dream. Narasimham is so affectionate towards his village population that he always try to solve the criminal problems in village amicably. Village head Parandamayya’s grand daughter, that is daughter of businessman Mallikarjun (Naazar) is Kavya (Anushka) who comes to enjoy her vacation in the village falls in love with Narasimham for his sincerity and caring. In parallel is the story of villain Purushottam (Prakashraj), an extorsionist and kidnapper in Vizag who always lives on illegal money. During one of such extortions, he is arrested by Vizag Police but gets out on conditional bail as court orders  him to sign everyday in the Police Station of Narasimham. Initially Purushottam tries to escape the Police formality of signing but is feared and insulted by Narasimham for playing with law. An insulted Purushottam doesn’t want to live Narasimham and wantedly makes him transfer to Vizag with promotion as Inspector. Here starts the game, as Purushottam and Narasimham take on each other with pure action drama. In this nerve breaking war, Narasimham is promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police by Home Minister (Vijay Kumar). Very soon, Purushottam’s brother (Aadi) is killed by Narasimham in a shoot out and the final battle has begun. Villains kidnap Karnataka Home Minister’s daughter and are set to live the country after shooting Kavya. Atlast, the dreadful Narasimham is out to kill Purushottam which forms an interesting and witty climax. Values of the Movie Yamudu: Suriya once again wins the hearts of audience with the role of tough cop. His mannerisms, ease in performing tough fights and gracy dance movements easily steal the show. Overall, Suriya roared like a Lion in all aspects. Speaking about Anushka, nothing credible scenes for her to perform yet she oozes in glamor with skimpy outfits looking trendy and ultraglamorous in songs. Prajashraj was again usually at his best. Missing of Prakashraj’s dubbing voice decreased the intensity of his cruelty. Comedy by Vivek as ‘Jamadagni’ has brought some laughs. Remaining, Naazar, Radha Ravi, Vijay Kumar, Nizhalgal Ravi were just okay for their roles. Technicalities wise, Hari needs all the applause for coming with this kind of fast paced cop story. From very first scenes in the movie, Hari’s most gripping screenplay and effective narration will impress the viewers. He doesn’t give any break or shake to his story telling as audience move unabated with all powerful Suriya. True winner is Hari for his jet speed screenplay. Music by Devisri Prasad never created an impression of a dubbing movie, thanks to good work of Sahithi, the lyricist. All the songs were excellently picturized. Dialogues by Shashank Vennelakanti served to the situation and raised the levels of narration. Cinematography by Priyan is worth mentioning songs and action wise. Stunt Master Rocky Rajesh has done a mindboggling work. Suriya was amde look like a real lion trying to catch its prey. Especially the fight at Rambha Theatre in Rajahmundry was awesome. Vijayan’s editing was sharp and made the movie not to loose its grip. Production values of Studio Green are great. Out of the Movie Yamudu: Action based formula movies always have their own stamina to break the BO. ‘Pokiri’ proved it for Tollywood and ‘Singam’ proved it for Kollywood. What it needs for these kind of movies is the right mixture and right work out on ingredients. Director Hari is true winner for his screenplay first. We might not find nothing innovative in any of the department yet we travel along with the action. The way Hari worked out on each and every turn and twist in the movie is what makes the movie interesting. Adding the additional force was Suriya’s impeccable performance. For all those who has the heart to enjoy the regular formula based, masala action flicks…here is ‘Yamudu’ which serves you 100% satisfaction. For all others, movie can be called a trash. First half was dealt neatly bringing out the right momentum for second half by successfully creating a strong conflict between hero and villain. Again the action drama continues in second half. Good and witty work in climax makes the audience satisfied. Action, racy script, strong and gripping narration, power packed performance of Suriya, glamorous Anushka, DSP’s music are good scores for ‘Yamudu’ while a bit of Tamil flavor, regular and routine cop story, overtly picturized stunts and no creative work may dissatisfy a section of viewers. Given the good amount of publicity and a word of mouth, ‘Yamudu’ has all the chances to make its bright at BO, especially ‘B & C’ centres.
